In 1847 Father Kelly of Connecticut ministered to the Catholics in this section. In 1859 a Catholic Church was built at Sylvan Lake, and another at Clove Valley, forming a part of the Parish of St. Denis. The village contains several stores, mechanical shops, and the Borden creamery. On the west side there once dwelt the ancestors of the families by the name of Worden, Moshier, Dentory, Dibble, Davis and Turner. The first settlers were the families of Barent Baltus Van Kleeck and Hendrick Jans van Oosterom. It was replaced in 1852 by a stone bridge, thirty feet wide, which in 1884 was widened to sixty feet.
